LINET – World Leader in Healthcare Equipment

Introduction

Linet to invest almost EUR 16 million in a new production plant

Linet, a leading world hospital bed manufacturer, has launched a demanding investment project – the construction of a new production plant in Slany, Czech Republic. Linet will invest a total of EUR 15.04 million into this expansion extending its current production capacity at this site from the existing 45,000 to 80,000 beds a year.
More than two-thirds of this amount will be allocated to the purchase of new modern technology. The increase of the production capacity will enable Linet to satisfy the continuously increasing demand for top Czech medical technology products in world markets and will ensure that the company will constantly meet the ever greater demands of its customers. “Linet’s turnover has grown in the last five years year-on-year by almost a fifth, from 2003/04 it rose by a total of 86%.
In view of the fact that it wants to maintain this trend in future, these investments in extending its capacities are crucial,” is how Linet’s managing director, Zbyněk Frolík, justified this ongoing investment project.

“Linet is making enormous investments into research and development, and is placing its stakes on the latest technology. So it is precisely this type of company for which the Czech Republic has the ideal business environment – reliable employees, good infrastructure and great potential for research and development,” said Alexandra Rudyšarová, the authorised general director of the agency CzechInvest with which Linet is cooperating on this expansion.

The trial run of the new production floor should commence this November and production should be almost double the existing production capacity. It will be used for the production of the popular ELEGANZA, SMART, LATERA, IMAGE beds and column lifting units. The existing production premises, which were completed in 2003, will continue to be used to produce the HOMECARE or MULTICARE beds and also products which require atypical modifications in line with the specific wishes of the customer.

The groundwork for the new production floor began at the end of 2007 and an incredible amount of earth of 65,000m3 had to be moved. Now the approval proceedings are underway for building permission so the actual construction of the production floor can begin at the end of March. The total built-up area of the new plant located beneath land level will be 10,000m2. So Linet will possess almost 25,0000m2 of production space together with the existing production premises.

The new plant became a necessity so Linet could maintain its position on world markets. Enormous foreign expansion particularly through Linet’s extending subsidiary network and the growth of further customers in new commercial territories are placing constantly greater demands on the continuity and speed of deliveries. Exports are of vital importance to Linet because 86% of its production goes outside the Czech Republic. “We also want to increase the share of our traditionally strong markets – in west Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. We are also planning to enter the American market where we expect to produce our own beds,” explained marketing director Tomáš Kolář.

Linet is the leader on the Czech market and one of five of the largest companies in the world in the production of hospital beds. In the 2006/07 business year it exported 86 % of its production to 75 countries. The biggest customers are the European Union countries. The company’s turnover with its 460 employees reached a total of EUR 57.9 million in this business year, while the current business years ending 31.3.2008 will probably bring a further increase in turnover. Annually over 33,000 beds are manufactured at Linet in Slany.
