LINET – World Leader in Healthcare Equipment

Introduction

A positive step towards reducing manual handling risks

news
Linet UK has recently completed the delivery and installation of 400 Eleganza 3 bedframes for the Southport & Ormskirk Hospital Trust over the two sites of Ormskirk & District General Hospital and Southport & Formby District General Hospital. The arrival of these state of the art electric profiling bedframes was part of a Trust replacement programme designed to promote patient comfort and independence and to help reduce staff manual handling problems.

Through the choice of the Eleganza 3 bedframe, the Trust has ensured that their facilities will benefit from the very latest bedframe technologies and innovative features that will actively support treatment and nursing procedures.

Liz Yates, Director of Nursing said, “These new beds are beneficial to both patients and staff and I am delighted with their arrival and the smoothness of their installation. So far the comments from both patients and nurses across the Trust have been very positive. The patients enjoy the ability to adjust the beds on their own and the nurses appreciate the flexibility of the beds and the ease of their operation, for example in easily setting the right height to make handling the patients more comfortable.”

The ergonomic positioning system of the Eleganza 3 guarantees optimum patient comfort during all bedframe positioning and movement, whilst also contributing to the elimination of pressure ulcers.

Patients will be able adjust the bed to meet their own comfort needs through the use of easy to reach bed controls to adjust various sections of the bed. They will also be able to maintain their independence through the use of integrated mobilisation handles with height adjustment, which will provide them with support when exiting or entering the bed.

Optimum protection from falls is provided by the unique siderail system of the Eleganza 3, with the use of the Eleganza Protector which provides full-length patient protection whilst avoiding any unnecessary feelings of confinement for the patient.

One of the first patients to get a new bed was Mrs Christine Bromley from Skelmersdale, who is a patient at Ormskirk Hospital. She commented, “It is really comfortable and it is great to be able to position the headrest exactly where I want it when I want it. It gives me independence and saves me having to ask the nurses to move the head rest for me.” Mrs Bromley is a care worker at Arranmore Park Care Home in Burscough, “I know how hard it is to move patients in bed”, she went on, “so I’m sure the nurses will really appreciate these new beds as it will make their job a lot easier.”

Not only are these new bedframes beneficial for patients but they are easier to manoeuvre for nurses and porters and also their streamlined design and non-absorbent surfaces ensures that the Eleganza 3 is very easy to clean and decontaminate, ensuring the Trust can maintain its high standards of infection control.

The innovative features of these bedframes will also help reduce the physical demands of manual handling tasks for staff, with a reduction in the risks of everyday tasks such as patient positioning, lifting patients out of the bed and moving the bed.
